India's first certified B corp, eKutir started in 2009 with a vision to provide equal opportunities and sustainable development to people at the bottom of the pyramid. It has created a first of its kind, integrated, data-driven platform to empower poor smallholders and create new jobs in rural communities. Originally operational in India, today the company is active in Bangladesh, Cambodia, Nepal, and Haiti. eKutir's 74,000 farmers, with the help of over 400 micro-entrepreneurs, have seen average yield increases of 75% (on a range of 60 to 400%) and income increases of 100%, while cutting operating costs by 50%. Independent assessments of eKutir's social impact have also demonstrated improvements in gender equality, clean water, sanitation, and most of all, in local nutrition and health. The ICT platform has since been applied to a larger variety of industries, including water & sanitation, furthering its reach to hundreds of micro-entrepreneurs impacting more than 100,000+ lives in the BoP markets. Since its incorporation in 2009, eKutir India has set-up multiple subsidiary social enterprises to augment the model's growth across food, agriculture, and WASH, and in the process has received awards, capital and support from Facebook, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Government of India, World Bank, Inter-American Development Bank, and the UN, among others.
