Camai! - Welcome! Welcome to the Yupiit School District! Though we are small, we are a powerhouse for learning and ingenuity on the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta of Western Alaska. Our certified staff of about 50 professionals along with our 100 classified professionals work hard to meet the educational needs of the 450 children served by YSD. Unique Blend of Cultures You will find a unique blend of cultures at our schools in Akiachak, Akiak and Tuluksak. We are faced daily with the challenge of preserving our Yup'ik culture while preparing our students for their future in the 21st century. It is not at all unusual to hear lessons being taught to a first grader in Y'upik, and then to watch that child go to the computer lab and function fluently in English on the Internet. Mission Statement Our mission statement sums it up! "Yupiit School District-aaq caliarkauguq tusngavikluku Yuuyaraq, angniisqumaluki mikelnguut nanlengraata." Translated losely: "The Mission of the Yupitt School District, working with Yuuyaraq as a foundation, is to ensure all children are happy in any environment."
