What Is Myrtle Point School District?

Myrtle Point School District is a K-12 public school serving approximately 675 students in a coastal rural community on the Southern Oregon coast. Myrtle Point's economy is based largely on agriculture, forest product and tourism mostly related to outdoor recreation. The city has also been the home of the Coos County Fair for nearly 100 years. During the 60's and 70's, Myrtle Point School District was comprised of several outlying elementray schools in the communities of Arago, Bridge, Broadbent, Dora and Sitkum. Reductions in student populations and funding have forced the closure of these rural schools. Facilities now located within the city limits include an elementary school with grades kindergarten through six and a Junior/Senior high school serving grades seven through twelve. The district's business offices are located in a vintage primary school, built in the early 1900's. Other facilities include a bus and maintenance shop which serves as a terminal for a fleet of twenty busses. Myrtle Point is proud to be the home of the Bobcats. Our athletic programs are the mainstay of the community with students participating in football, cross country, volleyball, wrestling, girl's and boy's basketball, softball, baseball and track. The Bobcat's belong to the Oregon School Athletic Association as members of the Sunset Conference. Myrtle Point is also proud to host strong band, vocal, drama, agriculture, culinary and industrial arts programs.
