What Is Marion P. Thomas Charter School?
Marion P. Thomas Charter School (MPTCS) received its charter in 1998 and opened in 1999 with 60 students in grades K-2. MPTCS was conceived by a group of committed Newark community activists and parents. MPTCS opened its doors in a four classroom facility in the North Ward. Today, there are more than 1400 students in grades K-12 operating out of four campuses: Elementary Campus covering grades kindergarten through 5th grade; SELECT Academy, offers single gender classes in grades 2-6; Middle School includes grades 6-8 and the High School of Culinary & Performing Arts.
