What Is St. Lawrence County Office of Economic Development?
Purpose: to create conditions within St. Lawrence County that encourage business investment and improvement of incomes. Goals: Retention of existing businesses Expansion of existing businesses Attraction of new businesses Job retention and creation Organization: staffing is provided for: St. Lawrence County Industrial Development Agency (IDA) St. Lawrence County Local Development Corporation (LDC) St. Lawrence County Workforce Investment Board Activities: Marketing •Internal: inform in-County businesses of available incentive and financing programs. Accomplished through press releases, community work with local organizations and business visitations. •External: in partnership with other local, State, and regional development organizations. Accomplish through trade show participation, media advertising, direct mailings, business visitations, and the creation and maintenance of supporting websites. Assist firms located in or locating into St. Lawrence County by coordinating and aligning available local, state and federal resources. Manage and/or administer financing programs for the benefit of resident businesses and those new to the County. Administer tax-reduction incentives for expanding companies. Manage and operate, along with a number of partnering agencies, the One Stop Career Center, the County’s workforce development resource. Manage IDA-sponsored/owned construction projects to support business growth in the county (i.e. industrial park buildings). Business advocacy - as a Board member of the New York State Economic Development Council, the Director contributes to the formation of business-related public policy at the state level.
