Through groundbreaking research, the faculty collaborates with the Technion, a prominent technological institution, to unlock synergistic potential both within Israel and internationally. Established in 1969 in Haifa, the Faculty of Medicine was founded by a group of doctors who recognized the necessity for medical education and research in northern Israel. Evolving over the years, the faculty expanded its preclinical and clinical curriculum into a six-year medical program, attracting students and faculty members alike. Generous support from visionary philanthropists led to a modern research building and the faculty being named 'The Ruth Baruch Rapaport Faculty of Medicine. The Faculty of Medicine has continued to grow, introducing new study and research programs, accommodating increasing numbers of students, and nurturing talented faculty members. Since its first cycle in 1974, the faculty has awarded over 2500 Doctor of Medicine degrees. It also offers research programs for Master's and Doctor of Philosophy graduates, who contribute to significant scientific research in medical sciences and biomedical engineering. The faculty takes pride in the achievements of its members, including two Nobel Prize winners in Chemistry, Research Prof. Avraham Hershko and Research Prof. Aaron Ciechanover, renowned for their work in identifying the ubiquitin system, leading to groundbreaking insights in cancer and neurodegenerative disease research.
