The ASICS Digital division was created in 2016 and is based in Boston, Massachusetts. Our goal is to build innovative digital technologies to better connect the ASICS brand to its consumers. We are responsible for the continued development of mobile-fitness solutions such as Runkeeper and ASICS Studio, global e-commerce platforms, and other digital services that inspire people to move, get fit and stay healthy. HISTORY Runkeeper, a leading mobile running app, was founded in 2008 and one of the first apps available when the app store launched that year. The app now has over 50 million users across 180 countries and is available in 12 languages including English, Spanish, French, Italian, German, Brazilian Portuguese, Japanese, Swedish, Dutch, Russian, Korean, and Simplified Chinese. ASICS Group acquired Runkeeper in March of 2016 as a piece of the brand's 2020 growth plan to continue to drive global expansion and improve the Direct-to-Consumer (DTC) experience. ASICS has been dedicated to designing the most technically advanced footwear and athletic products in the world for over 60 years. In 1949, Mr. Kihachiro Onitsuka began his athletic footwear company (Onitsuka Co., Ltd.) by manufacturing basketball shoes out of his living room in Kobe, Japan. He chose the name ASICS for his company in 1977, based on a famous Latin phrase "Anima Sana In Corpore Sano", which when translated expresses the ancient ideal of "A Sound Mind in a Sound Body." ASICS was founded on the belief that the best way to create a healthy and happy lifestyle is to promote total health and fitness.
