What Is WEL Networks?

At WEL Networks, we're delivering innovative energy solutions which enable our communities to thrive. Based in Hamilton we've served the Waikato for 100 years, distributing power from the grid, connecting over 160,000 people to electricity through 89,000 installation connection points. We play an essential role in the region's economic and social development by identifying and investing in new technologies that will modernise our network and future-proof our region. How do we do that? - By capitalising on our investment in smart metering technology, developing in-house data analytics expertise by integrating smart meter data with network and asset data. - By investing in Ultrafast Fibre, the company responsible for one of New Zealand's largest telecommunication infrastructure builds and Opunake Hydro Limited, an electricity generator and wholesale participant in the New Zealand electricity market. These partnerships will enable unique solutions to be developed in their emerging markets. - By helping expand the electric vehicle footprint through the installation of five fast chargers at strategic sites across the region and within the economic hub, the Golden Triangle. - By installing 76kW of solar panels on our roof so we can investigate the benefits of solar power for our communities. - By investing around $80 million every year to keep our network assets in top condition. And then there's the awesome team of around 250 people with a range of expertise who deliver this programme while keeping the lights on 24/7. From Live Line Mechanics, Faults Technicians and Technical Planners, to in-house Health & Safety professionals, Finance and Human Resource management. We're committed to being the Best in Service, Best in Safety. We’re fully community-owned with the WEL Energy Trust our sole shareholder.
