What Is UMBC Department of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering?
For more than 35 years, the UMBC CSEE Department has produced the Computer Science, Computer Engineering, and Electrical Engineering leaders of tomorrow. Our enrollment numbers for Fall 2022 were 2023 undergraduates and 1141 graduates.\n\nThe department has produced more than 390 PhDs since 1986 in its graduate programs in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, and Electrical Engineering. The department also has special graduate programs in data science and cybersecurity.\n\nResearch is a key focus here. Our research funding continues to grow, with projects supported by both government and industrial partners, including the National Science Foundation (NSF), the National Security Agency (NSA), the National Institutes of Standards and Technology (NIST), and the Department of Defense (DoD). Our research expenditures in 2021 were over six million dollars.\n\nUMBC is a Carnegie R1 institution. U.S. News and World Reports (2022) Ranks UMBC:#9 for Undergraduate Teaching and #10 for Innovation among National Universities.
