What Is The Foundation Schools?
Founded in 1975, The Foundation Schools gives students with emotional disabilities and autism another chance to reach their full potential. Today we serve 350 students in the Washington metropolitan area with emotional disabilities in grades K-12 and autism in grades K-8. The Foundation Schools is a nonpublic special education day school approved by the Maryland State Department of Education and the District of Columbia’s Office of the State Superintendent of Education and is a 501(c)(3) organization. Our purpose is to inspire, uplift and motivate our students to strive for a bright future and believe they can achieve their dreams. The Foundation Schools are guided by the philosophy that all students can experience success. Our staff works tirelessly to address the challenges that interfere with our students’ academic and therapeutic progress, including but not limited to: providing individualized educational and therapeutic services and supports, basic needs, parent support, and connecting our families to community resources. The services we provide improve the lives of our students and by extension their families and creates a foundation so they can create sustainable futures for themselves. From transitioning back to the public schools, to college and career exploration, to graduating high school, the students of The Foundation Schools demonstrate they can discover success and inspire us all.
