Southern Grampians Shire was formed in September 1994 by the amalgamation of the former Shires of Dundas, Mount Rouse, Wannon and the City of Hamilton. Hamilton is the main retail and service centre supported by the smaller towns of Balmoral, Branxholme, Byaduk, Cavendish, Coleraine, Dunkeld, Glenthompson, Penshurst and Tarrington. The Southern Grampians Shire has a strong sense of community with people working together to achieve common goals and outcomes.
