What Is National Heavy Vehicle Regulator?

The National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) is Australia's independent regulator for all vehicles over 4.5 tonnes gross vehicle mass. From the paddock to the ports, and through our cities and towns, the transport and freight industry contributes significantly to the livelihood of everyday Australians and to our national prosperity. Since we opened for business in January 2013, we have continued to work closely with a broad variety of industry sectors and our government partners to build a safe, productive and innovative heavy vehicle industry We administer the Heavy Vehicle National Law (HVNL), which currently applies in Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, Tasmania and the Australian Capital Territory. We deliver the following services for heavy vehicle operators and drivers: - National Heavy Vehicle Accreditation Scheme management and accreditations - Performance-Based Standards Scheme vehicle design and access approvals - heavy vehicle access permit applications - heavy vehicle standards modifications and exemption permits - a national driver work diary and a risk management-based approach to advanced fatigue management - one set of national notices - one set of national fees for NHVR services - one set of national penalties.
