The New Zealand Lotteries Commission (Lotto NZ) was formed in 1987, and is charged with running and promoting lottery games in New Zealand under the Gambling Act 2003. Lotto NZ is a Crown Entity. Profits from Lotto NZ's games are all transferred to the NZ Lottery Grants Board who in turn distribute funding to three statutory bodies (Sport NZ, Creative NZ, and the NZ Film Commission), and directly to over 3,000 community, arts, sporting groups and individuals around New Zealand every year. Since Lotto NZ began, more than $3.6 billion has been transferred through the NZ Lottery Grants Board to NZ Communities.
