Griffith City Council services the needs of more than 25,000 people living in the western Riverina region. Mission Griffith City Council has adopted a two point mission statement which it believes is the crux of Council's role and purpose. That mission statement is: 1. To respond to the needs of the commuity and deliver in an economical manner those services which are the responsibility of Local Government. 2. To provide Local Government administration that is dedicated, accountable and committed to the improvement of the quality of life and the conomic well-being of the citizens of the City of Griffith. Description The thriving City of Griffith is in the regional centre of the Murrumbidgee Irrigation Area, an abundant, picturesque oasis in an area which the explorerre John Oxley described in 1817 as being "uninhabitable". Proclaimed a City in 1987, Griffith, with its modern shops, sophisticated boutiques, internatioonal restaurants, clubs, tourist attractions, leisure, recreational and acommodation facilities, bursts with vitality and friendly warmth. General Information At the 2006 Census, there were 24,922 people living within the City of Griffith. By 2011, this number had grown to 25,847 and with forecast population will see this figure grow to 30,763. The role of Griffith City Council is to ensure that Griffith is a leading regional centre, embracing its diversity while nurturing a happy, healthy and resilient community, today and into the future.
