What Is Forth Valley Sensory Centre?

Forth Valley Sensory Centre is a place where people with a visual or hearing loss, their friends, families, carers and the wider community can access quality services and advice from our partner organisations. The Centre is inclusive, accessible and aims to promote the involvement of the wider community and build positive relationships across Forth Valley. The Centre was the first of its kind constructed in the UK and specifically developed for the sensory impaired community. Today, the Centre hosts a number of services and activities, not only for people with a sensory impairment, but also for the wider community. These include: a café serving fair trade coffee, a sensory garden and a sensory room, which are open to all. Businesses can also take advantage of our spacious, flexible meeting rooms which are close to all major transport links. The overall objective of the Centre is to help people who have a sensory impairment live as independently as possible. Statutory Social Work services are provided by Falkirk and Stirling Councils while RNIB Scotland and Action on Hearing Loss run a Resource Centre with equipment and advice to help in daily life. NHS Forth Valley holds audiology clinics for children and babies and ophthalmology clinics and advice in conjunction with Falkirk Council Sensory Impairment Team for all ages. NHS Forth Valley disability team provides guidance and support on health, disability and overall wellbeing as well as interpreting services where required. Forth Valley Sensory Centre also provides a programme of added value services including a wide range of social groups and activities for people with a sensory impairment. The Centre is owned and run by Forth Valley Sensory Centre Trust. The Trust is a partnership between Action on Hearing Loss, Falkirk Council, NHS Forth Valley, RNIB Scotland and Stirling Council. Forth Valley Sensory Centre Trust is a registered charity (SC034267) and a company limited by guarantee.
