What Is Exotic Metals Forming Company?
Exotic Metals Forming Company LLC (EMFCO) is a Kent, Washington, based world-class manufacturing company supplying the OEM segment of the aerospace industry for more than 35 years. The company has literally grown from a garage to a 200,000 square foot state-of-the-art manufacturing facility that has won international recognition for its unique, cost-effective solutions to complicated sheet metal forming challenges. EMFCO combines the sophistication of a large organization with the culture and flexibility of an entrepreneurial company. EMFCO traces its origins to early 1963 when The Boeing Company provided the opportunity to become a second-source supplier for titanium sheet metal flanges used on the Boeing 727 aircraft. EMFCO developed an innovative axial-load bulge forming technique specifically for this application that remains the standard bearer today. This process yielded flanges of significantly higher quality and lower cost than anything on the market at the time. The technology has since been continuously refined and applied to the manufacture of a variety of intricately shaped products with an unparalleled level of uniformity and repeatability. Over time, EMFCO has also added a broad range of other sheet metal forming technologies and manufacturing processes that have led to an ever-growing product line encompassing larger and more complex assemblies. In 1994, EMFCO acquired a business that brought with it engineering design and analysis capabilities. Subsequently, these capabilities have been significantly enhanced and now include total system design, integration and product testing. As a result, customers can depend on EMFCO to provide "cradle to grave" support for their ducting and formed metal product requirements. This total support also includes aftermarket services since EMFCO was granted FAA approval for overhaul and repair services in 2000. Today, EMFCO is a major contributor to virtually every model of Boeing airplane in current production. The range of applications served include sophisticated hardware associated with the Environmental Control, Engine Build-up, Anti-icing and APU Exhaust Systems; Plugs and Nozzles for the primary engines; doorway Scuff Plates; and plumbing for Vacuum Waste Systems. We have successfully applied our forming techniques to the majority of the super alloys including Beta 21S, 15-3-3-3, 6AL-4V, 3AI-2.5V, A40, A55 and A70 Titanium; Nickel Alloys 718, 625 and 600; Haynes 230 and 188; Hastalloy; and Columbium, Waspalloy, and 300/400 series stainless steel. In addition to the Boeing family of commercial aircraft, these technologies are incorporated in various other programs throughout the industry including the Apache, Trent 800, V-22, F117, and F135 exhaust systems. Air supply ducting systems are supplied to the F117, PW4168, PW4000, PW6000, F135, and Airbus A380. Flexible pneumatic ducting systems incorporating various types and degrees of ball, socket, and gimbal joints are supplied to the A330/A340, PW6000, and PWC307A. Vacuum waste systems are supplied for the A320 program and the Gulfstream GIV and GV. EMFCO's constant commitment to providing best value, quality and on-time delivery performance has earned us recognition by Boeing on a number of occasions including Supplier of the Year awards in 1995, 2000, 2001, and 2002; admittance to the Q100 Club in 2000; and the Preferred Supplier Certification "Silver" rating in 2001. Gulfstream also awarded EMFCO a Certificate of Outstanding Performance in 2001. We remain resolute in our dedication to acquiring the absolute best in people, equipment and lean business practices to continue our legacy of customer-recognized, industry-leading performance. We are thankful for the pride and individual initiative of all the men and women who comprise Exotic Metals Forming Company LLC.
