What Is Emory University College Council?

We are College Council (CC), the Student Government of the Emory College of Arts and Sciences, and we’re all about improving the lives and enhancing the experiences of Dooley’s mortals. We’ve been around a while. Since 1955, our mission has been to earnestly and faithfully serve and represent students as they pursue theirs. Today, this ideal remains central to everything we do. We exist to represent student interests to a wide variety of audiences, including (but certainly not limited to) the Emory administration, the Board of Trustees of Emory University, the University Senate, the City of Atlanta, and the Georgia Legislature. College Council is led and overseen by a President, a Vice President and representatives who are all elected by students every spring (with the exception of first-year representatives, who are elected shortly after fall classes begin). These individuals come from every corner of campus; they’re charged with establishing CC’s official position on a variety of issues, as well as advocating for and carrying out its objectives. A little more specifically, College Council works to investigate and resolve common student problems; advocate for the inclusion of students in the overall policy and decision-making processes of the university community; promote awareness of the student’s role in the academic community; enhance the quality and scope of education at the university, both inside and outside the classroom; and empowering students with opportunities to step up and become a leader. Students: We invite you to join us. Contribute your ideas, bring your unique perspective and talents, and be a part of the big things we do. Every Emory College student is a member of College Council, and there are dozens of opportunities to get involved.
