Founded in 1951, the VNA provides high-quality health care services for patients who are recovering at home from illness, injury or surgery. Using state-of-the-art equipment and specialized procedures for the home setting, VNA's caring, supportive staff works as an extension of the patient's physician. We develop a plan of care for each patient and a VNA registered nurse oversees the care and recovery process. A registered nurse is available by phone 24 hours a day, seven days a week. If a problem arises between scheduled visits, the nurse is available over the phone and, if necessary, comes to the home. We have offices in Monterey, Salinas, Hollister and King City and make more than 75,000 home visits each year. We center our program on a team approach, involving the patient's physician, the patient and family, a registered nurse and other VNA staff. During each visit, the nurse assesses the patient's condition, provides treatments, and monitors compliance with medication routines. The patient and family are kept informed about the recovery process and the family learns ways to participate in the patient's care. Depending on the case, one of our clinical nurse specialists may act in an advisory capacity , as a resource to the home care nurse and, if necessary and ordered by the physician, make a visit to see the patient.
