What Is Brotherhood of St Laurence?

Celebrating more than 80 years in Fitzroy, Victoria, the Brotherhood of St Laurence's vision is an Australia free of poverty. Our work to build better lives for all members of our community involves delivering services to people and families in need, developing policy and supporting social change. Our work focuses on children and families in the early years, young people moving from school to work, adults seeking employment, and older people facing the challenges of ageing. Within this framework, we also pay particular attention to issues relating to refugees and asylum seekers. Some of our programs run nationally in partnership with other agencies, such as HIPPY (Home Interaction Program for Parents and Youngsters) and Saver Plus, while local programs and services include Youth Foyers, Stepping Stones, Given the Chance and Brotherhood Training. Through our Brotherhood businesses such as our community stores and our online second-hand book store Brotherhood Books, we raise funds for our programs and provide employment.
