What Is Birmingham Hippodrome?

Birmingham Hippodrome is dedicated to staging world class live performances for everyone. As an independent charity, we invest in the cultural life of Birmingham and believe that memorable live experiences have the power to entertain and inspire. We regularly welcome over 500,000 visitors annually making us the most popular single theatre in the country. Enjoy the magic of world class resident company Birmingham Royal Ballet, the acclaimed Welsh National Opera, the UK’s largest pantomime, award-winning drama, West End touring musicals from the most famous producers, and the finest comedians. Hippodrome CREATIVE team work on a growing number of ambitious projects in schools, colleges and communities and present exciting outdoor programmes bringing live performance to everyone, often for free. Whilst we are not subsidised directly through revenue grants, we work regularly and successfully with a variety of partners including Birmingham City Council, Arts Council England, DanceXchange, Culture Central, plus private grant-makers and corporate sponsors. This has enabled us to deliver some of the most innovative projects including the award-winning biennial International Dance Festival Birmingham (IDFB) since 2008; The Voyage - for London 2012 Festival and the Cultural Olympiad; 4 Squares Weekender celebrating the opening of the Library of Birmingham, and more recently Birmingham Weekender 2015. As a charity, we are constantly seeking support from businesses through sponsorship and other project partnerships. We welcome new support from individuals, donations and membership subscriptions. And we welcome the vital support secured through applications to grant-making Trusts & Foundations. Please get in touch if you share our ambitions or want to find out more.
