He quickly took full ownership and expanded the company to 27 stores in just seven years. Outlaw was responsible for establishing the company's commitment to quality, value, and service. BI-LO's strong market presence and its solid financial setting made the company very attractive to Royal Ahold NV, which acquired BI-LO in 1977. Ahold is an international retail company based in the Netherlands, operating retail operations in Europe, Asia Pacific, and the United States. Ahold is one of the largest food retailing companies in the world.
