Unlike the Wright Brothers, modern aerospace designers and manufacturers like Spirit AeroSystems (formerly Mid-Western Aircraft Systems) operate with a lot more resources than a wing and a prayer. The company specializes in the manufacture of composites, fuselages, underwing components and wings. It designs and builds part of every Boeing commercial aircraft except the 717.
