What Is Spirit AeroSystems?
Unlike the Wright Brothers, modern aerospace designers and manufacturers like Spirit AeroSystems (formerly Mid-Western Aircraft Systems) operate with a lot more resources than a wing and a prayer. The company specializes in the manufacture of composites, fuselages, underwing components and wings. It designs and builds part of every Boeing commercial aircraft except the 717. Spirit AeroSystems produces the fuselage, engine nacelles, and pylons of 737s, and nose sections, nacelles, and pylons for 747s, 767s, and 777s. A long term affiliate of Boeing, Mid-Western Aircraft Systems was acquired by Canada-based Onex Corp. in 2005. The new owners subsequently changed the unit\'s name to Spirit AeroSystems.
