Not-for-profit community based organization aimed at providing non-institutionalized support services for adults and youth living with a developmental disability. The primary purpose of Pulford Community Living Services is to assist people to lead self-directed lives and to participate fully in their communities. The emphasis on empowerment and participation is critical because the prejudices of society form powerful barriers that prevent many people with developmental or physical disabilities from enjoying a high quality of life. It must be our duty to follow the individual path suggested by the unique gifts, preferences, and needs of each person we support, and to walk in partnership with the person, and those who love him or her, toward a life of opportunity, well-being, freedom and contribution. Pulford takes the approach of helping someone develop their skills and competencies as opposed to dealing with someone's "disabilities". Throughout the agency our goal is that supports are individualized. This is done by spending time with the person, getting to know them, their families, and their support networks. It means researching their culture, their beliefs, and understanding their wants and needs.
