obilet, incorporating the most distinguished bus companies and airlines for enabling the users to compare and purchase the most suitable bus and plane tickets according to their travel programs and to make the planning process more enjoyable, was founded in 2012 by entrepreneurs, Ali Yılmaz and Yigit Gurocak. Invested previously by Earlybird Venture Capital and with the participation of EBRD in the latest round, obilet.com has received its fourth investment in the last five years leading the Turkish technology and travel sectors. With this investment, obilet raised $10 million within one year. Named “Europe's Best Travel App” by Mastercard in 2015, obilet ranked eighth among the fastest-growing companies listed in the 2017 Deloitte Technology Fast 50 program with a growth rate of 1041%. In 2019, obilet was also listed among Turkey's 100 Fastest-Growing Businesses according to the results of a 2019 survey conducted by the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB) and the Economic Policy Research Foundation of Turkey (TEPAV). The mobile applications of obilet won “The Best Mobile Application” in the Mobile Application & Shopping category of 2019's Golden Spider Web Awards and also became “Public's Favorite” in the Tourism & Travel category. Most recently, in December 2019, obilet became “The Best Domestic Travel Initiative (Scaleup) of the Year” and “The Best Bus Reservation Platform of the Year” in Uzakrota Travel Summit. Having sold more than 10 million tickets in 2019 and grew 20 times more in terms of the annual website traffic, obilet.com is planning to sell 18 million tickets in 2020 with the help of its innovative mobile and web applications, a competent team, and the support of EBRD.
