What Is WorldSkills UK?
Driving up skills to boost business productivity: WorldSkills UK helps young people develop the skills and mindsets that employers need to gain a competitive edge.\n\n•What we do:\nWe are an accelerator for young people in the start-up phase of their careers. This means we inspire more young people to take up apprenticeships and technical education; we champion their success; and we accelerate their personal and professional development. We are working with employers to improve skills to world-class standards through regional, national, and international competitions and mindset training.\n\n•Why we do it:\nTo change the national conversation so that apprenticeships and technical education are seen as prestigious career routes for all young people. Ultimately, boosting the numbers of highly skilled and ambitious young people filling technical career routes and apprenticeships will make UK businesses more productive and help more young people get a better start in work and life.\n\n•How we do it:\nThrough experiential and digital careers advice; skills competitions; and mindset and productivity training.\n\nWorldSkills UK Competitions have been creating excitement and passion for learning in young people for 65 years. Designed by industry experts, the Competitions equip apprentices and students with the world-class skills needed to help UK businesses better compete globally. Each year around 3,500 young people are registered to take part in competitions that take them on a learning and development journey to improve technical and employability skills that they take back to the workplace to improve their own performance and influence their colleagues to improve their standards. Through WorldSkills UK Competitions they also have the chance to compete for medals in the UK National Finals, and the opportunity to represent their country in international competitions.\n\nWe also host the UK’s largest annual skills, apprenticeships and careers event: WorldSkills UK LIVE.
