What Is West Gate Tunnel Project?

The West Gate Tunnel Project team within the Major Transport Infrastructure Authority is responsible for the management of the West Gate Tunnel Project on behalf of the Victorian Government. The team is working in partnership with Transurban to deliver three interrelated projects: the West Gate Tunnel, the Monash Freeway Upgrade and Webb Dock access improvements. The project team is made up of skilled professionals from the public and private sector, with additional support provided by external experts from a range of fields. The team is headed by CEO Peter Sammut. Peter has over 30 years' experience in managing major infrastructure projects, including Public Private Partnership Projects such as the $3.5 billion Victorian Desalination Plant and the $2.5 billion Eastlink toll road, at the time Victoria's largest ever urban road project.
