Variety Distributors, Incorporated is a member-owned cooperative distributor, founded in 1946 in St. Louis, Missouri by a group of store owners looking for an easier way to receive their merchandise. Variety moved to its present location in Harlan, Iowa, 60 miles east of Omaha, Nebraska in 1956, and we have been here ever since. Variety is the largest general merchandise distributor in the United States. Our 200,000+ square foot warehouses service over 1000 independent retailers throughout the United States. Our Member-Owners and non-equity customers have the following opportunities available to them: Our Main Warehouse services the everyday needs of our stores with 25,000+ regularly stocked Sku's, most sold in each's for greater turns and low investment. Our stores receive everyday catalogs indexed into 26 individual departments. Our Stores can purchase Seasonal merchandise which is pictured in individual catalogs, including Valentine, Easter, Spring and Summer, Lawn and Garden, Back to School, Halloween, Christmas Toys, Christmas Decorations and Christmas Gifts, most with extended seasonal dating, low prices, and case pack discounts. Items not normally stocked in warehouse or items we want to test market are featured in monthly Return Sheet catalogs available to all stores. The Hometown Variety Logo Outdoor Illuminated Signage is available to Equity Members. A monthly, full-color photography Circular program, created in-house by our professional graphic department, creates bright, colorful, and eye catching full color sale plans, consisting of 4 to 12 page circulars and 24 to 32 page Coupon Books, featuring everyday and seasonal merchandise. A weekly fax program selling New & Seasonal items, Special Buys & Hot Deals. Drop Ship programs with 3,000+ vendors; merchandise is shipped directly from vendors and invoiced through Variety. A complete Store Development Department, utilizing Plan-O-Grams, Blueprints, & Shelf Tags to create a store from the ground up, or enhance a present store. A seasonal fabric and floral catalog is offered in the Spring and Fall with low prices and extended dating. Two annual, national Trade Shows in the Spring and Fall. Shipments to stores within 24 hours, with a 94-96% overall fill rate.
