The Associations mission is to function as a human service organization nationally affiliated and worldwide in scope, serving individuals and families in the Shoreline area in Connecticut. Christian in its heritage, the YMCA is ecumenical in its delivery of services and in its membership. The Valley-Shore YMCA assists people in learning character-building skills, i.e. caring, respect, honesty and responsibility that will enrich their lives, help them to grow and to realize their full potential, and to lead them to inter-racial, inter-faith, international and inter-generational understanding. Within its expertise and means the YMCA will also strive to address unmet social needs. Emphasis shall be on developing the whole person as embodied in the YMCA symbol, the Triangle, signifying the union of spirit, mind and body. The YMCA is essentially a membership association of men, women and children of all ages, abilities, incomes, races and religions. It is dedicated to promoting good health, strong families, youth leadership, community development and international understanding.
