What Is The Press-Enterprise?
The Press-Enterprise Co.’s roots go back to 1878, when Riverside pharmacist and teacher James H. Roe published a weekly paper he called The Press. Seven years later, The Enterprise began publishing as a daily, and The Press become a daily the following year. In 1880, Roe sold The Press to Luther M. Holt, who changed its name to The Press & Horticulturist. Because of Holt’s agricultural interests, the paper became a major factor in popularizing Riverside’s navel orange.
