What Is Teaching English Learners?
Teaching English Learners, LLC was founded by two educators, Ron Rohac and Lise Ragan, who have spent the last several decades teaching English learners, supporting teachers of ELs, and creating instructional materials and teacher tools to ensure the academic success of this fast-growing student population. Our goal is to make English learners academically successful by supporting the teachers who work with these students every day—in the science, math, English language arts, social studies, and ESL classroom. Through a membership in Teaching English Learners, educators will gain access to the hundreds and hundreds of video and PDF strategies, lesson plans, and activities that Ron, a former middle school teacher, has developed and tested with the English language learners in his classes, as well as shared with hundreds of other teachers in his professional development work. Content teachers--science, math, ELA, social studies, and more--can easily integrate these practical strategies and activities, which are aligned to sheltered instruction/SIOP/SDAIE principles, into their daily lesson plans. The Teaching English Learners' strategies and activities are the essential instructional building blocks for helping ELLs to reach high academic levels, and are aligned with the Common Core ELA Anchor Standards for listening, speaking, reading, writing, and language, and content literacy, as well as the Next Generation Science Standards.
