What Is Southern Cross Healthcare?
Southern Cross Healthcare is part of the Southern Cross group; which operates on non-profit principles with the purpose of advancing the health and wellbeing of New Zealanders. A nationwide network of hospitals are at the core of our business; providing the infrastructure for quality elective surgery and post-operative care. Our hospital facilities include modern operating theatres, consulting suites, specialist centres, and imaging facilities; complemented by dedicated teams of nursing professionals and other healthcare workers. Over 1000 surgeons and anaesthetists use our hospital facilities in their private practice. All medical specialists complete a credentialing process before being able to work within our hospitals. Our patients include Southern Cross members, policyholders from other insurance companies, self-funding patients, and patients whose surgery is funded under the public system through New Zealand’s Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC) and District Health Boards. Over recent years we have broadened the scope of our business; through joint venture partnerships in the natural adjacencies of community-based rehabilitation and physiotherapy, and workplace mental health and wellness. These partnerships with Active+, TBI Health, MedPro and EAPworks enable us to reach more people, in more ways. We also have joint venture partnerships with a number of other day surgery facilities, hospitals and specialised diagnostic and treatment services. December 2020 sees our name change from Southern Cross Hospitals to Southern Cross Healthcare to reflect the broader way we now support the health and wellbeing of New Zealanders. People are at the heart of our quality service we. We are the largest employer of registered nurses in New Zealand’s private surgical sector. In addition our operations require a range of broader healthcare, operational and business skills. We are owned by Southern Cross Health Trust, a charitable trust established in 1977.
