Shakti Rising is an innovative nonprofit organization working to create large scale social change by providing holistic, empowerment-based programs that facilitate individual and community transformation. Our work actively promotes community well-being by creating woman and child friendly societies that are safe, healthy, vibrant, diverse, sustainable and culturally alive. Our mission is to empower young women to uncover, rediscover, and reclaim their whole selves. We do this through programs that provide personal transformation, community wellness education and leadership development. Founded in 1999, Shakti’s three core programs, Transformational Recovery Apprenticeship, Education and Community Wellness and Transformation through Service address the whole person encompassing physical, emotional, mental and spiritual wellbeing. We affect a depth of individual change by cultivating health and the emerging leadership of young women, ultimately empowering them to utilize their personal transformation as a catalyst for positive change in their families and communities. Shakti’s education and leadership programs affect a breadth of community change by working with women of all ages and from all walks of life as well as with schools and community based organizations.
