What Is Scarborough Borough Council?

We are a local authority in North Yorkshire covering an area of 315.27 square miles from Staithes in the north to Speeton in south, encompassing a large part of the glorious Yorkshire coastline and the three towns of Scarborough, Whitby and Filey.\n\nWe have 46 councillors representing our communities who are elected every four years by local residents on a ward by ward basis. Party representation is currently: 16 Conservative, 13 Labour, 10 Independent, 3 Cluster of Independent Members, 2 Green, 1 UK Independence Party, 1 of no political affiliation.\n\nOur corporate plan 'Towards 2030' sets out our vision of working towards a prosperous borough, with a high quality of life for all. The plan contains four key aims to reflect key priorities of residents and stakeholders as defined through the wide range of consultation we have undertaken:\n \n• People – to have a safe, happy, healthy population with people who feel valued and included\n• Place - to protect and improve our environment, now and for the future\n• Prosperity – to develop a prosperous and innovative borough, with a highly skilled and aspirational workforce\n• Council – to be an efficient and effective council which is financially sustainable for the future
