What Is San Francisco Housing Development Corporation?

San Francisco Housing Development Corporation (SFHDC) is a community-based, non-profit organization founded in 1988 by civic and community leaders from the Western Addition and Bayview Hunters Point neighborhoods of San Francisco. Our founding mothers and fathers established the organization in response to gentrification, escalating housing costs and urban renewal policies that resulted in the steady displacement of African Americans and other people of color from these areas beginning in the 1960s and 1970s. Since our inception, SFHDC’s mission has been to foster financial stability through the development of affordable housing and the facilitation of home ownership. Today, SFHDC's scope also includes resident engagement and social services, as well as the economic revitalization key commercial corridors in the Bayview Hunter’s Point and other neighborhoods in San Francisco.
