What Is Robert Bosch Centre for Cyber-Physical Systems?

The Robert Bosch Center for Cyber-Physical Systems is a research and academic center at IISc that works at the forefront of collaborative research and teaching in the domain of cyber-physical systems (CPS). The domain of CPS goes beyond the traditional computer control of machinery and now encompasses the interplay of computing systems with large scale, complex, physical systems like buildings, traffic systems, cities, river systems etc. These are complex system of systems with many interacting components and in general have been difficult to analyze and manage. However, with recent advances in technologies for sensing and communication, it is now possible to monitor such systems, their components and their dynamics with unprecedented, high resolutions. This opens numerous research opportunities to study these systems, understand them and eventually better control and engineer them. The center aims to pursue research in the foundational topics in Modeling, Analytics, Simulation, Control, Optimization, Sensing & Actuation Systems and Systems Engineering of such systems. This research will be undertaken via collaborative research projects in application areas like Robotics, Autonomous Vehicles, Efficient Mobility, Smart Manufacturing, Health Systems, Green Energy and Sustainable Water Systems. The center will draw upon the existing deep strengths in many of these foundational and application domains within the institute, to drive multi-disciplinary research programs. Laboratory facilities and teaching programs at the center will complement those in the other departments of the institute. Besides access to Institute faculty from other departments, the center also has several highly qualified research scientists and engineers, as well as world class visiting professors and scientists.
