What Is Qantas Defence Services?

Qantas Defence Services Pty Ltd (QDS) is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Qantas Airways Ltd created in 1999 with a specific focus on the Defence Aerospace Industry to support a range of Defence programs. QDS is part of the Qantas Group and employs approx 500 people. QDS provides a wide range of integrated logistics support of Australian Government and Defence Force aviation for fleet management, maintenance, overhaul, engineering, logistics, training, project and contract management. QDS main support services for the Commonwealth of Australia and Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF): Partnered with EADS for the supply of Airbus A330 Multi Role Tanker Transport and undertake conversion work into KC-30A, including Through Life Support (TLS) and maintenance. MRTT replaces the RAAF's Boeing 707 in the aerial refuelling and strategic transport roles Lease to RAAF Special Purpose Aircraft (Australia Prime Minister's Aircraft and other VIP Aircraft), including support and maintenance Repair, Overhaul and Through Life (TLS) Engineering Support of the T-56 Turboprop Engine (powering the RAAF Fleet of C-130H and P-3C Aircraft) Repair and Overhaul of the Rolls-Royce Turbomeca Adour Mk 871-05 Turbofan Engine (powering the RAAF Fleet of BAe Hawk 127 Lead in Fighter) Repair, Overhaul and Engineering Support of the P&W PT6A-62 Turboprop Engine (powering the RAAF Fleet of Pilatus PC-9/A Aircraft) Repair and Overhaul Sikorsky S-70A-9 Black Hawk helicopter components Deeper Level maintenance support of the RAAF's fleet of C-130 Hercules transport aircraft Maintenance and Engineering Support of the RAAF's fleet of P&W R2000-7M2 engines installed on Caribou transport aircraft Repair, Overhaul and Engineering Support of associated Hamilton Sundstrand and Hartzel propellers, Honeywell APU's (GTCP-85,-95 series) In August 2013, QDS was sold to Northrop Grumman Corp and the acquisition completed 27 Feb 2014.
