What Is Newcastle Airport Pty?

Newcastle Airport is one of Australia's fastest growing airports, with more than 1.2 million passengers passing through the airport each year. The Airport is serviced by five airlines, Jetstar, Virgin Australia, QantasLink, and Regional Express, who connect the Hunter with the east-coast of Australia and beyond. History: The current airport site was originally opened by the Commonwealth Government as Williamtown Civilian Airport in 1947. The first scheduled commercial operation landed at the Airport on 20 February 1948. In 1990 Newcastle City Council and Port Stephens Council accepted an invitation to by the Federal Government to jointly operation civil operations from the Airport. They formed the company Newcastle Airport Limited in 1993. In 2013, the company underwent a restructure and became Newcastle Airport Pty Limited. Economic contribution: A significant economic contributor to business and tourism in the region, Newcastle Airport contributes $633.4 million to the local economy annually, and supports more than 4,100 jobs in the region. Awards: Numerous awards have been presented to the Airport in the past decade. In particular, Airport was awarded Major Airport of the Year in 2011 at the Australian Airports Association Awards and in the same year a Gold Award at the Australian Tourism Awards.
