What Is Plasma Protein Therapeutics Association?

The Plasma Protein Therapeutics Association (PPTA) was formed originally as International Plasma Products Industry Association (IPPIA) in 1992. Incorporated for the primary purpose of representing the plasma protein therapeutics industry, the organization started with a European division in 1994 as the European Association of the Plasma Products Industry (EAPPI). In 1998 the formation of IPPIA North America took place. Then in 2000, both EAPPI and IPPIA merged to form the Plasma Protein Therapeutics Association (PPTA). In 2002, PPTA merged with ABRA (formerly the American Blood Resources Association) and formed a PPTA Source Division. ABRA, formed in 1971, was the recognized International Authority for the Source Plasma Collection Industry. Over its three decades, ABRA created added benefits for patients, industry, donors, customers, and government agencies. Industry standards, like those incorporated in the International Quality Plasma Program (IQPP) are the foundation on which our industry has built a reputation for quality, safety, and integrity.
