What Is Perth Airport?

As the gateway to Western Australia, Perth Airport is Australia’s fourth largest airport in terms of passenger traffic and plays a vital role in the economic and social development of the state. Only 12 kilometres from the heart of Perth, the capital of Western Australia, the airport is part of a 2,105 hectare estate that offers significant aeronautical infrastructure, and high quality commercial and industrial developments that are primely located near major access corridors. Perth Airport is operated by Perth Airport Pty Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Perth Airport Development Group Pty Ltd, under a 50-year lease with a 49-year option granted by the Commonwealth Government in 1997. Perth Airport is closely involved with Tourism WA in promoting Western Australia as an attractive destination for overseas visitors and has a strong focus on working with airlines to increase the number of passengers travelling to and from Western Australia. With 14 million passengers travelling through the airport annually, and this number anticipated to double to 29 million passengers by 2034, Perth Airport is making significant investments to meet growing demand and create a world class airport experience. Many improvements have already taken place over the past three years through a $1 billion capital investment program, with the most significant being the new $300 million T1 Domestic Terminal that became home to Virgin Australia’s domestic operations in November 2015. The continued transformation of Perth Airport will include the construction of a third runway, a new International Pier, multi-storey car parks and commercial office space, and will see the consolidation of all commercial air services into one precinct, Airport Central.
