The Pear Education Foundation, part of the Pear Systems Development Company, is an educational organization dedicated to the support of Science and Technology capacity development in Africa in accordance with the United Nations millennium development goals. It is our dream that in the very near future, institutions of higher learning all over Africa will offer their students far more than basic education, but will give them the necessary tools for research and development, especially in the area of ICT, that will enable them become not just users but innovators, initiators and inventors of new modes, methods and machines that are well adapted to, and most suitable for local conditions and processes in Africa. Our goal is to first make these tools available to educational institutions of all levels at rock bottom prices, and then establish free ICT training centres (centres of excellence) all over Africa where young pupils and higher education students can learn to create their own computer hardware and software for personal use, and thereby develop life skills that can in time be turned into ideas, businesses, and other processes of innovation at both the enterprise and government levels, leading to financial independence for individuals and economic advancement for African Nations .
