What Is New Zealand Qualifications Authority?

The New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA, MÄ?ori: Mana Tohu MÄ?tauranga o Aotearoa) is the New Zealand government crown entity tasked with providing leadership in assessment and qualifications. It was established by the Education Act 1989. NZQA administers the National Certificate of Educational Achievement (NCEA) and the New Zealand Scholarship for secondary school students. It is also responsible for the quality assurance of non-university, tertiary training providers, the New Zealand Register of Quality Assured Qualifications, and the National Qualifications Framework. It has further roles in evaluating overseas qualifications. NZQA's vision, Qualify for the Future World, describes the impact NZQA is seeking for successful learner and society outcomes. NZQA efforts are focused on quality assurance and assessment which will help learners qualify for the future world of opportunities both in New Zealand and internationally. NZQA has created three key goals to help achieve this aspiration: - NCEA examinations online by 2020, where appropriate. - Qualification Recognition arrangements with at least 50 countries by 2020. - NZQA partners with education system agencies to support a 50% lift of MÄ?ori student achievement at NCEA level 3 in one or more standards in STEM subject related areas by 2020.
