What Is Nebraska Writers Collective?

Founded in 2008, The Nebraska Writers Collective is an Omaha-based 501(c)3 non-profit organization that fosters personal empowerment and community-building in the Midwest through creative writing and performance poetry. We pursue this mission through a variety of literary outreach programs, but primarily through hands-on, interactive workshops focused on the creation and performance of original writing. NWC programming focuses on three main goals: -Mentoring New Writers -Sustaining and Retaining Established Writers -Preserving and Promoting the Work of Writers Throughout Nebraska, Western Iowa, and Beyond Programs include: Louder Than a Bomb: Great Plains, serving thousands of students in 40+ schools throughout Nebraska and western Iowa. Hundreds then form teams to participate in the full 12-14 week program where they write, revise, rehearse, and perform original individual and group pieces. Writers On Loan, offering a variety of writing workshops ranging from traditional one-session engagements to longer programs with community groups, schools, and more. The Seven Doctors Project, accommodating the busy schedules of working professionals who rarely have time to engage in creative self-expression. Participants engage in intensive evening writing workshops in small group settings for 6-8 weeks, with a focus on the creation of publishable work. It was named for the seven physicians who participated in the inaugural session. Writers’ Block, serving prisons and detention centers.
