MCDD's mission is to enhance community safety and support the region’s vitality by reducing flood risk, maintaining our levee system, managing drainage, and responding to emergencies. We reduce flood risk for residential communities, industrial sanctuaries, and vital public infrastructure such as the Portland International Airport and Oregon’s second largest water supply, the Columbia South Shore Well Field. Along with three other districts: Peninsula Drainage District #1, Peninsula Drainage District #2, and Sandy Drainage Improvement Company, we manage 27 miles of levee, 13 pump stations, and 45 miles of ditches, sloughs, streams, and culverts along the South Shore of the Columbia River.
