In 2014, YWCA Tulsa celebrates one hundred years of working toward a more empowered and inclusive community. Though the political and social climate of 1914 looked quite different from the context of today, tackling the challenges and problems of our society has consistently required a strong commitment to meeting the needs of women and their families. In the first decades after our founding, YWCA Tulsa worked to improve race relations in a divided city, offered occupational training to young women, and provided economic support to families during our country's most troubling economic times. Today, our work still reflects these foundational values, as we help seniors and children become healthier and stronger, assist newcomers as they increase their self-sufficiency with language and job skills, help women through the financial and legal challenges of divorce, and empower individuals and organizations to create and sustain inclusive cultures.
