What Is Merchants Metals?
Merchants Metals has a long and rich history in the United States fencing industry and is proud to be an American owned and operated company. Our story began in the 1940’s when Nagel Coat Hanger Company began weaving chain link fence fabric in Houston, TX. As the fence market continued to grow, the decision was made to form a separate division within the company and Gibraltar Fence was established in 1953. In 1969 Gibraltar Fence was acquired by Merchants, Inc., primarily a trucking and transportation business. By continuing to acquire more companies, Merchants added to their fence manufacturing strength and began their quest to gain a national network of manufacturing and distribution facilities. The name was officially changed to Merchants Metals, Inc. in 1976.
