What Is Max Planck Institute Luxembourg for Procedural Law?

Procedural law matters – this could be the leitmotif for the Max Planck Institute Luxembourg for Procedural Law. (hereafter referred to as MPI Luxembourg) The MPI Luxembourg is a legal research Institute located in Luxembourg’s quarter of Kirchberg. Founded in 2012, it is operated by the Max Planck Society (MPG), Germany’s foremost provider of basic research in science and humanities, and funded by the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, as a part of a broader strategy of the local government to develop Luxembourg as a centre for academic excellence and higher education. The MPI Luxembourg is the fifth institute established outside the German borders, and the first to focus on law. Since its foundation in 2012, the MPI Luxembourg has established itself at the forefront of enquiries on procedural law, and has integrated into the wider research and academic community in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, in Europe and globally. The MPI Luxembourg investigates modern tendencies in dispute resolution mechanisms from different perspectives, especially those of public international law, and European and comparative civil procedural law. Anchored in truly international and interdisciplinary foundations, the research projects developed at the MPI Luxembourg investigate the grounds of the procedures governing international courts and tribunals as it tackles, at the same time, the various contemporary forms of dispute settlement, such as collective litigation, online dispute resolution and mediation.
