What Is Mama's Kitchen?

At Mama’s Kitchen we believe that everyone is entitled to the basic necessity of life — nutritious food. As a community-driven organization, we provide nutrition support to men, women, and children affected by AIDS or cancer who are vulnerable to hunger. What We Do: Mama's Kitchen delivers three nutritional meals a day, seven days a week at no charge to men, women and children living with AIDS or cancer. Additionally, Mama's Kitchen provides pantry services and nutrition education to people who are HIV positive.Through these services, we are able to provide food, compassion and hope to over 1,400 people annually. Programs & Services: 1. The Home-Delivered Meal Service delivers breakfast, lunch and dinner for 365 days/year to San Diego County residents affected by AIDS or cancer, free of charge. In Fiscal Year 2016, 348,258 meals were delivered to 630 individuals. Our Home-Delivered Meal Service encompasses these programs: • AIDS Nutrition Program--In FY 2016, delivered 279,351 meals to 460 individuals in SD County struggling with HIV/AIDS. • Cancer Nutrition Program--In FY 2016, delivered 68,907 meals to 170 individuals in SD County, under age 60, struggling with cancer. • Breast Cancer Outreach Project--supported by the San Diego Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure; raises program awareness to the breast cancer community. • Children’s Nutritional Health Program--In FY 2016, delivered 45,939 meals to 104 dependent children of clients, removing the stress of preparing meals from parents so they can focus on their health. 2. Mama’s Pantry--In FY 2016, 757 low-income, HIV+ individuals received the equivalent of 74,280 meals. 3. Personal Nutrition Coaching--offers HIV+ people the opportunity to meet with a registered dietitian to learn how to eat smart, cook healthy meals & feel better through nutrition. 4. Emergency Food Assistance--provides up to 12 weekly grocery bags in a 12-month period ea. containing food sufficient to make up to 21 meals.
