What Is Longy School of Music?

Longy School of Music of Bard College prepares musicians to make a difference in the world. This social imperative is at the core of our curriculum, encouraging students to become the musicians the world needs them to be. The School is internationally recognized for its efforts to meet a changing musical landscape head-on, giving its graduates the opportunity to perform professionally, teach in a variety of settings, and expand access and opportunity within classical music.   An innovative curriculum compels students to explore their artistry and to take risks to build their skills, guided by a world-class faculty that encourages them to push their artistic presentation beyond the proscenium model. Longy promotes profound musical understanding and technical mastery, inspires growth of imagination, and fosters an attitude of inquiry about the musician's role in the world. CONSERVATORY OVERVIEW Degree Programs: Master of Music degree, Master of Arts in Teaching music degree (LA), Undergraduate Diploma, Graduate Performance Diploma, and Artist Diploma. Undergraduate Diploma students can jointly enroll at Emerson College in Boston and pursue the Longy Undergraduate Diploma and Emerson Bachelor of Music degree simultaneously. Total student body: 325 Student-to-Faculty Ratio: 3:1 COMPENSATION Longy offers a competitive salary plus an Open Time Off Policy (OPTO), which includes a generous Family Medical Leave policy of 12 paid weeks.
