What Is Lewis Mason Thurston Area Agency on Aging?

The Lewis-Mason-Thurston Area Agency on Aging (LMTAAA) is a governmental agency sponsored by Lewis, Mason, and Thurston Counties since 1976. As one of 13 Area Agencies on Aging in the state of Washington, the Agency’s mission is to plan, fund, manage, monitor, coordinate, and advocate for services and programs that serve people who are older or who need long-term care, including younger adults with disabilities. The board is a Council of Governments, (COG) composed of three county commissioners, one from each county. There is also an 18 member Advisory Council, which provides input and advice to the agency staff and board. The staff of approximately 60 is stationed in all three counties, operating out of four offices. The $9 million annual budget is funded primarily by state and federal funds through contracts with the Washington State Department of Social and Health Services. Services provided directly by the staff include Information and Assistance, Family Caregiver Support Services, Case Management, and a Home Care Referral Registry. A wide array of other services, such as Nutrition, Adult Day Care, Legal Services, Congregate and Home Delivered Meals, In-home Personal Care, Respite Care, and Kinship Care Services are provided through contracts with local organizations. The goal of these services is to help people live in their own homes as long as possible, postponing or eliminating the need for residential care. Mobility, eyesight, income, health, transportation––these and many more facets of life may require new approaches as we age or deal with a disability. The Lewis-Mason-Thurston Area Agency on Aging assists individuals and families in making the right choices for them when confronted with the realities of loss and change. Our professional staff, programs, and referral resources can provide access to information and assistance for most anyone in need.
